Integrated Animal and Bird Farming

This is Naseeb farm (an integrated livestock farming), which is located at Salethur, Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. The farm is having different breeds of pigeons, guinea fowl, pheasant, turkey, quail, ducks, love birds, cockatiel, different breeds of chicken, cow, buffalo, and different breeds of rabbits, and goats.

10 years back Mr. Rasheed started this farm. He started this farming business from the goat farming business. After becoming successful in the goat farming business, he thought of starting an animal and bird farming business. Another man Mr. Rihan is managing the entire farm.

The specialty of this farm is most of the sheds are built from waste materials. The best example of waste material utilization is the fridge incubator. They developed an egg hatching incubator using the old fridge, and a brooding chamber using waste wood materials. This business will give maximum profit with little investment. Now he has many breeds of different birds and animals.

1) Goat farming

Different breeds of goats in the different sheds. All sheds are made on a low budget. Now Rasheed has more than 100 Goats on his farm. After watching Rasheed, local youngsters also started rearing goats and he was helping them to market as well. Goat farming involves raising or rearing domestic goats mainly for their meat, milk, fiber, and skins. Goat farming is a profitable business as it has good economic prospects. Nowadays, integrated livestock farming which is goats with other animals like poultry or fish become popular.

2) Rabbit farming

Rabbit farming is not only profitable but enjoyable too. One can raise a rabbit as a pet and also grow it on small land without much investment. Rabbits are being reared in our country for a long time. There are many advantages of commercial rabbit farming in India. Bunnies are cute and small-sized animals. They are soft and therefore are a good source of meat. There is a very high demand for rabbit meat in the market and there are not enough suppliers to fulfill this growing demand. Rasheed has many breeds of rabbits on the farm.

Pigeon farming is a very interesting, profitable enterprise, and pigeons are very popular domestic birds. Pigeons are considered the symbol of peace. It fetches good money without involving any expenditure. Pigeon farming requires less labor and low investment. Even you can also raise and take care of them during in free time.

4) Chicken farming

Rasheed has many breeds of chickens here. He has many fancy chicken breeds, desi chicken breeds, fighter chicken breeds, egg layer chicken breeds, and commercial meat chicken breeds. Fancy chickens and fighter chickens fetch a really good price and this business has a really good profit. A fridge incubator is used to hatch eggs and then hatched chicks are raised in a homemade brooding chamber. Poultry, Goat, and Fish farming together is considered one of the most profitable integrated livestock farming.

5) Guinea fowl farming

A guinea fowl is slowly making its mark in households in the city. Mostly being raised by those who have open space or terraces, they obtain that egg and meat are considered to be good for health. Farmers from many parts of rural India are seen selling these hens on the outskirts of the city and people are preferring to buy from them. As local chicken markets are charging more for each pair of guinea fowl. This bird is available in different colors like pink, black, and yellow and its unique feature is white dots on its feathers, which are much softer compared to the country hen. Now Rasheed has only a few guinea chicks.

6) Pheasants farming

The pheasant (A beautiful bird) is another bird raised on Rasheed’s farm. Now he has only one pheasant bird, after selling many birds. It may feel alone, so he kept one chicken with it.

7) Turkey farming

Turkey farming is a viable alternative to chicken farming in India. And commercial turkey farming is becoming increasingly popular in India. Turkeys can be used for commercial egg and meat production as well as being kept as pets.

8) Quail farming

Quails are very small birds that belong to the pheasant and partridge species. In India, Quail farming is a great source of income. Apart from this, quail farming is very entertaining too. The quail bird rearing is very easy. In addition, commercial production of both meat and eggs can be done by quail birds.

In comparison to any other poultry business, quail farming is very profitable for the farmers. Indian climate is considered comfortable for raising quails and quail birds can adapt themselves to all types of environments. In addition, quail as integrated livestock farming doesn’t need a huge investment.

9) Duck farming

There are so many different duck breeds available around the world, that duck farming is a very popular and profitable business idea. It is simple to raise them on meat and eggs. They provide a small pond to enjoy. keep in mind that if you raise ducks without water, they will lay unfertilized eggs, which means you won’t be able to hatch the eggs and produce ducklings. Male ducks and water, are required if you want viable eggs. Ducks require water for reproduction and mating.

A lovebird might be one of the smaller parrot species available as a companion pet, but this bird is inquisitive and seemingly always on the go. As their name suggests, lovebirds are known for the loving, attentive bond they tend to form with their mates.

11) Cockatiel bird

There’s a reason why the cockatiel is one of the most popular companion birds – this slender Australian parrot can be both cuddly and bold. Cockatiels can also be curious and, at times, feisty. With a cockatiel in the house, you are likely to hear a repertoire of chirps and whistles. Here now they have only two cockatiel birds.

12) Cow farming

Milk is not the only source of income in cow husbandry. Cow dung and cow urine are highly sought-after items in organic farming. If the dung is dried and sold in bags, the villagers get up to Rs. 150 per sack. Cow urine and Panchagavya are similarly sold in the organic sector.

The farmer can generate income by giving milk at home and in dairy groups. If you want, you can make more money in the form of value-added products like buttermilk, yogurt, and ghee. These are also in high demand in hotels and restaurants. All this is to show that cow breeding is still a very promising occupation. With four or five cows, a family can make a living without any hassle.

13) Buffalo farming

Buffalo farming is an important occupation for many people in the Indian subcontinent. The buffaloes are especially very suitable for tilling rice fields, and their milk is richer in fat and protein than that of dairy cattle. Breeds of Buffaloes Indian buffaloes are required for a necessary supply of milk nowadays and they yield nearly 3 times more compared to cows.
